About

PetFoodStats is a decision facilitator built on manufacturers' public data. It lets you run a fast, informed search without having to trawl the internet to cross-check labels, technical sheets and forums.

Under the hood, the tool normalises analytical values (as-fed vs. dry matter), applies reference nutritional recommendations adapted to the animal's profile (puppy, adult, senior, neutered, weight-loss...) and computes a comparable score product by product.

The grade attributed to each product is primarily meant as an indicator for people new to composition analysis. We are fully aware that a grade alone cannot reflect the true quality, or unsuitability, of a product for a given animal.

PetFoodStats is an independent editorial project, with no financial ties or content contract with pet food manufacturers.

The project was born from a simple realisation: as an attentive owner, it's impossible to objectively compare two kibbles in a store or online without spending hours on it.

Our added value is data normalisation, a transparent methodology, and the ability to dig into each criterion as deeply as you want.

No brand can influence a score. A product's grade depends ONLY on its analytical composition and its ingredient list, never on its commercial relationship with PetFoodStats.

Whether a brand is a partner or not makes strictly no difference in its evaluation. This rule is verifiable in our source code and our methodology.

The score is calculated out of 100, then converted into a grade from A+ to E. It rests on fundamental nutritional criteria:

• · Protein density (RPC) and animal protein share
• · Fat, carbohydrates, ash and fibre
• · Calcium / phosphorus and omega-6 / omega-3 ratios

Redhibitory criteria can cap the grade (excessive carbs for a carnivore, high ash, synthetic preservatives, excess of a specific ingredient...).

The thresholds and recommendations used for scoring rely on international reference bodies:

• ▸ NRC (National Research Council) - Nutrient Requirements of Dogs and Cats
• ▸ AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) - Nutrient Profiles

These recommendations form our baseline. They remain deliberately loose to cover a broad market and do not always anticipate the needs of specific cases (neutered cats, senior animals, sporting dogs, individual sensitivities). We therefore complement this baseline with our own editorial choices, documented in our methodology and, whenever possible, supported by recent scientific literature.

Product data comes from technical sheets published by manufacturers (guaranteed analysis, ingredient list, composition). We do not perform any laboratory analysis ourselves: our added value is normalisation, comparability and scoring.
